Where real property meets real data, every day

Resources

Notes on the kinds of releases the editions drew on, and on why two figures about the same month can disagree.

Monthly rent measures

Rent series are published monthly and revised, so a figure quoted in one edition can differ from the same month quoted later. Editions here carry the number as it read on the day.

Sales and mortgage releases

Existing-home sales, new-home sales and mortgage application volumes arrive on separate monthly and weekly schedules; a single week can therefore produce readings that appear to disagree.

Foreclosure filings

Filing counts combine notices, auction scheduling and completed repossessions. A jump in the headline can come from any one of the three, which is why the composition matters more than the percentage.

Construction indicators

Housing starts, permits and completions describe three different moments in the same pipeline and routinely move in different directions in the same month.

Commercial property data

Commercial figures are assembled from transaction records and loan servicing files rather than a single release, so they arrive later and are revised more heavily than residential ones.
